Sacramento authorities are examining a shooting incident that erupted Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area just as deputies were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.
What Led to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Shortly after, another report was received concerning a possible physical fight unfolding near the park.
A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Even so, deputies found that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Responding units began the process of clearing the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers directing attendees to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies at once began finding those who had been shot.
Four People Shot
Altogether, four shooting victims were located with gunshot injuries. The four individuals — a group of one female and three male victims all believed to be in their twenties — were rushed to Sacramento area hospitals. Emergency physicians indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 victim's wounds were minor. According to authorities, all four were in stable condition.
Sacramento Metro Fire also responded and assisted with medical triage the injured prior to hospital transport.
Physical Evidence
The primary shooting scene appears to have occurred along the Cottage Way corridor alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Round impacts were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that one of the gunmen had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.
Suspect Information
Details gathered over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were held for questioning. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for questioning. Surveillance footage revealed that two shooters had been involved.
